Oban is the gateway to diving on the west coast of Scotland. Many Liveaboard Charter boats are based here. You can explore the beauty of the Sound of Mull which is reasonably well sheltered from prevailing SW winds. There are a number of wrecks in the Sound of Mull, the Hispania, Rhondo, Thesis, to name but three. All easily diveable on air. Also the 90 metre Deep Wall at Lochaline is an awesome dive but not for the faint hearted. Good buoyancy control skills are absolutely essential.

From the Sound of Mull you can go on to the islands of Coll, Tiree, Rhum, Eigg and Muck in the Inner Hebrides as well as take the trip to magnificient St. Kilda - a World Heritage Site.

South of Oban, travel by road to Seil Island (16 miles south), launch a boat at Cuan Sound for the Garvellach Isles, or shore dive under the cliff at Rubha Mhic Mharcuis (but watch the back-wash), or have a drift dive at about 10 knots through Cuan Sound (but only with good boat cover).

These days diving in Drysuits is really a must as the water temperature is a maximum of around 12 degrees Centigrade.
