February 2011 Water temp varied from 23-27 degrees Centigrade (although the lowest temps were not typical, resulting from upwelling on a rather windy day because of a cyclone over Madagascar!) Fantastic variety of species of Surgeonfish, Wrasse, Parrotfish, Butterflyfish, Angelfish, Triggerfish, Fusiliers & Damsels. Also saw Trumpetfish, Unicornfish, Pufferfish, Boxfish, Scorpionfish, Sweetlips, Bigeyes, Sweepers, Moorish Idols, Batfish, Anthias, Gobies & Basslets. Lots of huge Sea stars, too. I loved it. We dived with Aquaventures in Watamu & am happy to recommend them.

February 2005 We stayed at Turtle Bay Beach Club which is highly recommendable, it’s an all inclusive hotel with some of the nicest staff I have ever meet. Although this was not a dedicated diving holiday I still managed to do 8 very nice dives with the hotels own diving team. All the dives was a short 10 min boat ride from the beach either in the morning or afternoon. The staff at the dive centre were all fantastic and very helpful and the guides were very good a spotting all the reef-fish. Don’t forget to combine your stay with a safari, this is not to be missed.

February 2005 Stayed at Turtle Bay Beach Club for 2 weeks and had a fantastic time. This is defiantly a recommendable place to stay especially for families. The diving is very good with a very healthy reef all protected by the marine park. Lots of reef fish and if you are lucky the occasional whale shark, but we didn’t see one. There are also lots of other things to do and see. All sort of water-sports available and of course do not miss out on a Safari. We flew in to The Masai Mara, which I can only recommend. Only one thing to say about that “Out of this world”.

Wreck Dives:

Here are the wreck dives we know of for Watamu-Malindi.

MV Dania
Ranked as OK by independant reviews Ranked as OK by independant reviews
On Sunday 27th October 2002 MV Dania went on her last voyage leaving Mombasa harbour early in the morning. A few hours later she sank only 50 m outside the reef off Bamburi Beach. However, it was not an accident but a purposeful exercise initiated and organised by Buccaneer Wrecks and Buccaner Diving and carefully monitored. Now Dania is sitting on a sand patch in 30 m of water in a north/south line.
12m / 39ft
32m / 105ft
Deliberately sunk: 27-Oct-2002 Wreck penetration is possible. Technical or decompression diving. More info...
Diver reviews for MV Dania:
Sits at 30Ms should be no problem for AOWD or above but has broken into 3 pieces so penetration only meant to be permitted for qualified Wreck divers, but a good dive
