November 2005 The wreck is a WWII german u-boat that was the first one sunk by the US Navy. It sits upright in about 95ft of water about 20 miles out from Oregon Inlet. It is intact from stem to stern except for the outer skin. The conning tower is there as is the gun and torpedoes (live) are visibile. I've seen personal effects such as shoes and breathing equipment on the sandy bottom. Water temp is in the low to mid 50's f. I've seen Moray Eels and octopus on the wreck.
