During the last five years I have been to Bangsaphan a few times and I have done about a hundred dives there. I did my courses from open water to divemaster with Absolut Wreck, wich is the only diveshop around Bangsaphan.
The diving at Bangsaphan is really lovely and the divesites are perfect for unexperienced divers as well as the very experienced ones. Also if you brought the family there is no reason to let that stop you, cause the dive site at Koh Talu is perfect for snorkling as well as diving and the crew takes care of your kids while you are out diving.
The divesites at Bangsaphan are lots of beautiful corals and marinelife, you are almost guaranteed some kind of ray. There is also a chance to see turtles, morrays, seasnakes, bannerfish, lionfish and lots of nudibranchs and other nice things.
There is also a few swimthrus and what I really like about the locations at Bangsaphan is that there is allways a place to dive with none to maybe a little current.
I know from my last trip there that it is possible to have trips arranged from Hua hin if you stay at the Hilton or the Marriot but if you have the time you should stay near Bangsaphan since the area around Bangsaphan still isnt full of tourists it makes it a nice romantic place with lovely beaches and very polite locals, ofcause that also means that there isnt your normal tourist atractions, but there is still nice waterfalls, temples and markets to check out if you want to do something else than diving and ofcause if you go in april you should definetly stay here for the Thai new year, this is the place all the Thais go to to celebrate there new year.
The times I have bin to Bangsaphan I have landed in Bangkok and taken a bus from Bangkok to Bangsaphan its a 6 hours ride but it is so much worth it when you get there.
Have a nice trip... :o)
