Exmouth is a very small town on the west coast of Australia. There are modest accommodations available, good food (by Australian standards), and a lot of great diving.

The Ningaloo Reef has tons of fish, turtles, and Mantas. There is a rumor they have Whale Sharks, but not at all times of the year.

Exmouth has one of the finest 'critter' dives anywhere. The Navy pier dive is outstanding. The pier is part of the Navy base and is a restricted area. No fishing or other deleterious activities are allowed anywhere near it. They do, however, allow a small number of divers to dive the pier daily. This dive has the entire food chain. From small stuff (shrimp, nudibranchs, sea slugs), to the largest groupers in the world, to sharks, permit, jacks, triggerfish, angels, you name it, it's here. One of the startling animals is the black catfish. These guys are so black, they are like a hole in the ocean.

Exmouth and Ningaloo are definitely worth the 2 day drive from Perth.
