The volcanic islands of Azores are a great dive destination, mainly between June and September, when the weather conditions are usually good.

Visibility is greater than 20m and surface temperatures are around 22ēC in the summer months. There are many dive sites all of them different and unique. Walls, caves, pinnicules, slopes and arches feature the volcanic topography of the dives.

Marine life includes pelagic species like barracudas, jacks, blue fish and tunas. Stingrays are frequent and manta rays are encountered in underwater mountains off the coast. Other species include meros (dusky grouper), comb groupers, parrotfishes, damselfishes and wrasses.

Nudibranches and a wide variety of other invertebrates are commonly found and a good subject for macro lovers.

I have dived in many other places in the world, including Cocos, Galapagos, Tailand, Malasia and Indonesia. I don´t like to compare, but I would recommend the Azores as a dive destination, not only for the quality of the dives, but also because it is one of the few places in the world still untouched by mass tourism, genuine and where you feel safe.

I have dived in Faial island.
