Surely one of the undiscovered treasures of the UK, magnificent castles, unspoilt beaches, friendly locals and clear waters make Northumberland an excellent dive location. Whether you enjoy wrecks or reefs you can take your pick and with the 'Farne Islands' rated as the number one place in the world to get up close and personal with a grey seal you won't be disappointed. The dive season is at its best between May and September, and due to the location, a spell of westerly winds creates the 'ideal' conditions for diving with visibility of 10m or more commonplace. As well as the diving, the area is an Internationally recognised bird watching location and the seas can also promise pelagic species such as Minke whales, bottle nose dolphins and porpoises. There are several charter boats for hire, air and nitrox freely available, as well as good launch facilities and plenty of reasonable priced accomodation ranging from cheap and cheerful to luxury hotels.
The area enjoys good road connections with the A1 cutting a scenic swathe through the heart of the county. The region is also served by air from Newcastle International Airport and by rail from the east coast railway network.
