Just dived the Similan and Surin Islands (Nov/2005)

Water temp was a constant 30 degrees, so a 3mm full or 5mm shortie is more than enough to keep you warm for an hours dive.

You really need to PADI AOW or above as every dive was at least 20m+ with some hitting 40m+, some of the dives in open ocean so negative entries are required.

The reefs are mostly in very good condition considering the Similan and Surin Islands got bashed by the Tsunami, a lot of small fish life about and lots of resident Leopard Sharks.

It rained most nights but was absolutley goreous during the days with flat seas. We did 25 dives over 7 days. Dived Richelieu rock which was okay but not as brilliant as some had made it out to be, some of the Surin Islands reefs are much better.

This is a fish spotters diving location, only one wreck which was deliberately sank in Anita's reef. An old Thai fishing vessel (between Islands 5-6) sits at 35m lying on its port side. Very new so not much life on it yet.

There are A LOT of Trigger fish hear so watch out in there breeding season!

Dont forget that there is a marine park fee to pay, it is collected by the Thai authorites when you enter the park. Normally between 10-15 euros. about 500-750 baht.
