Aguilas is located south Murcia very close to Almeria province. Is a lively village with a population of 30.000 inhabitants (bigger on summer months). San Javier , Murcia's airport is 1h15' drive away from Aguilas, there are low cost companies flying to Alicante and Madrid is at 4h30'drive. The weather conditions are excelent all year round with sunny and warm winters. Winter is one of my favourites periods, no crowds and warm temperatures comparatively with Madrid.

THE DIVING
The diving is all-mediterranean, is good all year round, especially in the summer months. Water temperature rarely falls below 17ºC (thermocline) and water surface temperature can reach 28ºC in late summer but in winter can drop to 14ºC. Water visibility is within a range of 10-20m. There are several dives sites within 15-25 minutes boat ride. Small walls, swimtroughs and a lot of holes and big rocks.
Amongst many other species, our all year round residents include octopus, moray and conger eels, cuttlefish, anthias, damselfish, groupers, scorpion fish, 'corvinas', goat fish, crabs, blenies, nudibranchs, and so on. If you are lucky electric rays, eagle reays, schools of barracuda (specially in summer), the famous mola-mola (sunfish) and from time to time bottle-nose dolphins can be seen on the way to the dive site.
There are as well some small wrecks and night dives are great.
Apart from Aguilas there are other wellknown dive destinations in Murcia like Cabo de Palos (100 km north), La Zohia (55 Km north) and going down to Almeria you can dive in Mojacar (50 Km south) and Carboneras (70Km south).

There are two Diving Clubs in Aguilas ( 'Club de Buceo Aguilas' and 'Club de Buceo Estela') and one in Calabardina (10km away north 'La Almadraba')

WHAT TO DO
Nowadays Aguilas has good hotel facilities, renting apartments and campings. There are many bars, restaurants, pubs, where people can taste the wonders of the cuisine of Murcia (excellent fish and vegetable dishes). 8 Mini-cinemas with the latest films. Sunbathing, snorkelling, and biking.

PLACES TO VISIT
There are many interestings places to visit like Lorca (25' drive, its Easter religious parades are very famous), Mojacar (45'drive), Cartagena (1h drive), La Zohia (1H drive), Cabo de Palos (1h 15' drive) and Murcia (1h drive, in springtime there is a famous fair called Fiestas de la primavera). But, if by chance, do you have the opportunity of going to Aguilas for Carnaval be ready for great parades and parties on the streets.
