Truk is truly known as the wreck divers paradise. It is a long and arduous trip from the States and worth every minute of pain endured on this long series of flights. From the States to Honolulu to Guam and a day later to Truk. Thre are several land based dive operations in Weno. The way to dive Truk however is by the way of a livaboard. There are three boats. The Odyssey, Truk Agressor and the Thorfinn. Take your pick. each has its own schedule , the prices on the Aggressor and Odyssey are about the same. The Thorfinn is less. The diving is truly spectacular.Top, dive San Francisco Maru. It is a deep decompression dive but the most pristine wreck in the lagoon. Hanikawa, Yamagiri, Unkay,I 169, are standouts. One could miss the Betty Bomber. Not very interesting. The ships for the most parts are very colorful. Lots of coral. Penetration only for experienced teams or dive guides. Lots of munitions, aircraft, tanks, torpedoes, china. The livaboard we were on (Odyssey) features a shark feed. Its pretty interesting. Other than that not too many pelagics. There is a land tour available. It is very interesting. Lots of canons, buildings left from the Japanese occupation. Some still used today for schools. Truk is ok to dive anytime, I heard Fall is very good. We went in October and never saw rain. Temps in the low 80s, same as the water. We will go back next spring.
