Molokini Crater and shore sites close to Kihei: very clear (100' + viz), warm water (79 - 81 degrees)with lots of fish, turtles, and invertebrates. Best dived in the morning before the trade winds kick up.
It's a 15 minute boat ride from the Kihei boat ramp to Molokini.
The Crater has sites from shallow to deep with drift dives around either point of the exposed crater rim. These Back Wall dives can be sluggish to really ripping. Marine life that I always see: green sea turtles; whitemouth and yellow margin eels; white tip reef sharks, grey sharks, milletseed butterfly fish, pyramid butterfly fish, raccoon butterfly fish, black durgeon; various parrotfish, surgeon fish, goatfish, damsels, golden trumpetfish, and wrasse, especially the Hawaiian cleaner wrasse. The trouble is not what you see, but how much room you have in your dive log to write it all down! There seems to always be at least one huge spiny lobster off Enenue as you drift around the point.
Seen, but less often: snowflake eel, zebra stripe eel, Harlequin shrimp, frogfish, manta rays, bottlenose dolphins, various nudibranchs, lionfish, flame angelfish.
An unexpected find while diving inside the Crater is jewelry dropped by snorkelers.
