The Florida Islands, Central province or Nggela offer outstanding diving including everything from Pelagics (Barracuda, Sharks, Manta and more) to pygmy seahorses. Shore based diving is from Tulagi and is home of some of the best deep, dark and rusty diving to be had. The USS Aaron Ward lies upright in 70m (220ft) the ship is still in very good condition and a great dive. The first American fleet oiler, the SS Kanawha is 40m to the deck and normally done as two dives (forward and aft) due to its size. The HMNZS Moa and the Kawanishi sea plane are also great dives.

The area also has a number of quality reef dives including the world famous Twin Tunnels. This dive features a drop into one of two volcanic vents that start around 18m and come out on the side of a wall at around 40m.

Tulagi was the venue for some fierce fighting during WWII and many remnants of this period of history can still be seen both in the Florida’s around the Solomon Islands. You can also visit local villages, tropical jungle or just enjoy a couple of cold beers at the end of the day. You get to the Florida’s via a boat transfer from Honiara (Guadalcanal)
