UTILA- That pretty well says it all. Terrific walls; reefs and deep dives; seamounts and shipwrecks.

Utila has it all.

I dove Utila many times over the last seven years and the island and its people are my second home. The diving is some of the best around, prices are fairly inexpensive and the lodging is anything from one room dorms to a/c conditon cabins with a swimming pool outside its doors.

Looking for whalesharks adventure, than Utila is the place to go. Diveboat captains spend their rest periods between dives for whaleshark locating. Watch for running tuna and there's sure to be a whaleshark close behind!

Some of my favorite dives are: Duppy Waters; Blackhills Seamount; Blackish Point and Jack's Blight. The island has a Marine Reserve and Wildlife Refuge named 'Turtle Harbor' and of course the famous 'Pumpkin HIll' which is the highest point on the island. The island in the last few years has become a technical diving mecca.

The night life is somewhat quiet until about 10pm when the local bars wake up and come alive. Coco Loco located on the beach just west of the center of town is my favorite. I guess the hardest part of Utila is getting there from the USA. It takes many flight changes and airports but the hassle is definitely worth it, some of the very best uncrowded diving in the Bays Islands. The other 'hard part' of Utila is 'leaving' - knowing that you're leaving some of the best diving in the world and some of the friendiest people you will ever meet.
