The Solitary Islands Marine Park at Coffs Harbour is midway between Brisbane and Sydney in New South Wales, Australia. It is where the tropical waters from the north mix with the sub tropical waters from the south. A blend of marine life that is not seen elsewhere! We have seen grey nurse sharks at 'Manta Arch' at South Solitary Island (over 20 of them in a small area), swimming around with Clownfish and anemones on the bottom!
We saw giant Cuttlefish 700mm long with Loggerhead turtles following us!
There is schools of trevally, tarwine and sweep, with moon wrasse and butterflyfish and anglefish of all colours. South Solitary Island has a large population of Blue Tangs too!
The area has a large cover of plate and branch type corals
Humpback Whales migrate thru the area from June to October
Water temp in the summer is about 24c and drops down to 18c in the winter.
Coffs Harbour is a small city with all facilities from Backpacker hostels to 4 star Resorts.
It has National Parks all around it, and rainforest walks are available
