There is an area called the ships grave yard, the wrecks vary in depyh from about 30 meters to 70 meters so which wrecks you can dive will depend on your certification level.
There is huge differences in the condition of the different wrecks. They even have a couple of English J class submarines - these are only in 27 meters to 38 meters. This makes them more accessible to divers.
Most of the wrecks are outside the bay, but inside they have some great wall dives starting from 8 meters to 90 meters. So over all, the diving in Melbourne I found to be very good. The weather plays a big part in the visibility down south. The average is about 10 meters, but it can be up to 40 meters. It is also one of the few places I have found in my 30 years of diving that can cater to all levels of diving in one place.
