Bass Lake consists of a 10-hectare body of spring-fed water. Considered by the top certifying agencies (PADI, NAUI, SSI, CMAS, IANTD) to be the best Scuba Training venue in South Africa. Depths vary from a walk in slope to 23m at the deepest point. The on-site filling station has 1500 litres of 300 bar Storage Banks, and can fill in 500 cylinders a day.

There are training grids at various depths for Scuba Skills training, as well as a number of interesting wrecks for more experienced divers.

Bass Lake is not only frequented by Scuba Schools with their students, but also by social divers who enjoy diving Bass Lake on a regular basis, or divers who wish to brush up on their diving skills in a safe environment.

Visibility ranges from 1 - 8 meters at the surface & up to 15 meters at the bottom. This however depends on how many divers have been around, as the "Bass Lake" is an old quarry. Thus, a lot (sometimes up to 30 centimetres thick) of silt, which gets kicked up easily, reducing visibility from 8 meters to less than 1 meter in seconds!

The major attraction to this lake is the 'wrecks'. I list them, and hopefully not miss one of them:
- bus
- vw microbus
- vw golf
- helicopter
- old speed-boat
- Cesna airplane body (no wings)
- Old high-pressure chamber
Then you have the oddities added by divers becoming bored with the usual:
- baths
- toilets
- mining truck-tyres
- engines, etc.

Aquatic life is basically zero, apart from the couple of Bass you can see, mostly around the surface, but we have found them up to 16 meters. Else you would see freshwater crabs, and snails.

There is a Scuba shop and Restaurant on site.
