Although not as well known or spectacular as the UAE's east coast, Abu Dhabi certainly has some very nice diving to offer, especially to west coast residents and holiday makers who fancy a day's diving without the 3 hour treck over to Fujeirah, Khor Fakkan or the Mussandam !

I had a beautiful day some weeks ago, the visibility was excellent (around 15m), the water warm and there were plenty of fish to see ! We visited 2 dive sites - the first known as 'Delta Buoy' about 1/2 an hours' boat ride from Abu Dhabi's Meena port. Although the corals in this area are not amazing, it is well known for its abundance of sea snakes... The second dive site -'The Old Cement Barge'- is exactly that, an old sunken barge which has formed an artificial reef. I really enjoyed this dive, there were big schools of fusiliers, a few large barracuda and some very tame arabian angelfish. Well worth getting into the water for !

Choose the cooler time of year for better vis, although the sea can get quite cold in December and January !

In light of recent project announcements, I think the West Coast will soon have plenty of great diving to offer... Watch this space...
