Goa is a truly a great place to be with a strong influence of colonial Portuguese culture. There is only one dive location in Goa and that is around Grande Island about 35 kms from Panaji, the Capital City of Goa. To reach the dive site you need to travel by boat. There are three dive centres around the area, BarracudaDiving at Marriott Resort, Miramar, Panaji, Promoted by Mr. Venkatesh Chraloo and secondly, Goa diving at Bogmalo Beach ( Mr. Willie).

The continental shelf around theses parts drops very smothly and the average depth around the site is 6 to 14 metres. The Vizibility is often quite poor due to two rivers Mandovi and Zuari drops their silt laden water into the sea. Mining activity may be another reason for such poor viz. If its your lucky day then the viz may be about 10 metres otherwise it may be as bad as 2-3 metres. Anyway if that does not deter you the sea life is really quite amazing. The marine species found around the Grande Island are Banner fish, Bleny's, large Groupers, Jacks, Squirrel fish, Parrot fish, Eels, Batfish, buttrfly fish nudibranch. You can also see the lobsters, and the symbiotic relationship of Shrimp and Goby. you can see lots of soft and hard corals around these parts.

There is a shipwreck around the area SS Rita a British Ship which sank in shallow waters in the 50's ( maybe). Not much to see pretty broken down condition but teeming with marine life which have made their habitat on the wreck. The Wreck site is called Suzy's Wreck at about 12 m of depth.

Other Spots around the site are :-
Lobster's avenue, Jetty, Umma Gumma Reef, sail Rock, Davy Jone's Locker, bounty Bay and turbo Tunnel.
There are about 60 ship wreck around these parts but locations are not known to the dive operators.
If you get bored with poor viz then try going from Goa to Netrani/Pigeon Island about 200kms ride to another location where the viz is 30 m. Near Batkal a new wreck site has been found at 30 m depth if you want the thrill of deep diving. Nitrox/EAn are not available but the dive centres are well equipped with the diving requirements of the area.

Diving Season Starts from Oct to May only

You can fly down from Mumbai to Goa or catch a overnite train from Mumbai to Goa. Goa has manay resorts and accomodation can be boked easily over web. Other than diving you can do a lot of other activities like visiting historic monument, Dancing in a Discotheque or simply lazing around the beach shacks with a chilled glass of beer.
