We stayed at the Al Aqah Beach Resort, a very nice hotel in the middle of nowhere, in August 2005. The area we dived was unadventurous and fairly bland, visibility was poor at approx 2-3 mts. There seemed to be plenty of marine life but because of the poor vis it was difficult to identify individual species. We did encounter a friendly turtle which the dive guide spent 10 minutes photographing!! leaving 3 divers waiting for him. The dive guide also spotted a Black Tip Shark and decided to swim after it leaving us to do our own thing. We decided after 10 minutes to look for the boat ourselves and as luck would have it we found it just as the dive guide returned.

All in all, from our experience, we wouldn't recommend diving in this area. We are both very experienced warm water/holiday divers and have come to expect a high standard of service from hotel based dive centres. This service was not reflected at this hotel. Apparently it is a good jumping off point for the Musandam, which I am led to believe is a spectular area to dive.

The hotel itself is exceptional, the people of the UAE that we met were very friendly. There is not much else to do in this area except from day trips to Dubai (Shopping) or out into the desert for a spot of wadi bashing and dune climbing, in a 4X4 jeep (Great Fun).
