Tufi as Lonely Planet describes is PNG's best kept secret. The area is abounded by coral shelves in the only fjord country in PNG. Tufi's unique geographic nature transforms this region into a macro photographers dream with all species of gobies and nudibranchs in close proximity to the resort. In fact it starts at the Wharf and just keeps getting better. The outside reefs can offer some great wall diving at its best! From 7m, vertical walls plummet down to beyond 40 m where it slopes down way beyond your vision. The walls are covered in colourful lichens, hard and soft corals. Nudibranchs of all sizes and varieties dot these walls. Macro or white angle lens now poses a difficult question. The top of the reef is exquisite and that is just one reef called Cyclone. Mullaways is always a must to see Hammerheads and close to Mulloway is Veale's Reef which is ideal for drift diving the slope with the current after diving the wall into the current. Plenty of Pelagic. It is an extensive reef, so after the drift diving part, the dive boat will pick up the divers. The white Hammerhead is often seen here as well. Corals on top of the reef are awesome. After a diving day there is lots of local colour and culture as Tufi is surrounded by local friendly villages that welcome the interested tourist. Great exposure to the real PNG. Try an overnight in a local village and experience it all.
