You can dive at the Tunka Abdul Rahman Park, where the small islands Mamutik, Manukan en Sapi are located. You can take a course (Open Water - Advanched, Resque Diver etc.)
Kota Kinabalu have many good hotels, 2 good shopping malls, markets, bars and restaurants.
You can rent a car and explore beautiful Sabah, or book a trip to Sandakan.
What can you expect when you dive over there? Big stone fish, seasnakes, sea needles, sea horse, raisor fish, cuttle fish, sting ray, puffer fish, lion fish, fire fish, porcupine fish, tuna, big moray's, black spotted stingray, ghost pipefish, painted spiny lobsters, all kinds of nuddibranches, and many, many more.
Visibility in Juli/August was between 4 - 15 meters. In the afternoon sometimes rainshowers, but that is normal in Sabah. Divecenters can be closed in the winterperiod.
If you like the island Mamutiek, you can sleep over there (camping). You have to check internet, because we didn't like that (many musquito's).
At the divesite 'Midreef' you can find a small fisherwrack, were yo can find big stonefishes, scorpionfish, crocodillefish, stingray's and so many other fish.
Also the housereef is nice, because you can find so many things in the sand. First you see only sand, but if you look good, you discovery many strange animals/fish (soulfish, stinefish, cuttlefish and stingray's). At this site we saw the seahorse.
