Soufriere is a protected area with some of the best diving in the Caribbean. We stayed at the Castle Comfort Dive Lodge and would recommend it highly. Small, quaint, no frills. You're made to feel like part of the family. Unlimited shore diving and night diving. Excellent staff on the dive boats. Whale watching - one of the only places to see whales year around, and we did see them as well as spotted dolphins. Seahorses, slipper lobsters, octopus, eels, banded coral shrimp, coral wire shrimp, sea cucumbers and 120+ visability. Amazing walls with black coral. One dive site, 'Champagne' has hot water coming out of the crevices - very neat!

On land there is plenty to do - beautiful waterfalls, natural hot springs, rain forests, Carib Indian territory, and home to one of the only 'boiling lakes' on the planet. Difficult to get to - 3 hour hike each way. We did not attempt!

We hired a driver to tour the country - roads are very narrow and difficult to drive. Very smart move. Very reasonably priced.

Fly through San Juan on American Airlines - be aware of luggage weight requirements! Be sure to bring home some of the island-made hot sauce but it cannot be carried on board - you must pack in the suitcase.

Would say Dominica is a MUST DIVE sight!
