Many diving sites exist in Giglio Island.
You can reach the Giglio Island in an hour ferry from Porto S. Stefano (one hour and half by car from Rome). During summer almost every hour there is a ferry. In winter time 3 or 4 times a day.
Some diving center (4 or 5) in Giglio Porto (est coast). The same in Giglio Campese (nord coast).
Diving center in Porto S.Stefano, on the Italian coast 12-13 miles from Giglio, also offer full day (2 dives, tanks, dinner with delicous pasta with fishes ragout) to Giglio Island.
Diving site for open water divers to the most experienced divers. There are few and small shores. Giglio is a rocky island and so the best way to dive is from a boat.
In your dives you can see wonderfull yellow and red gorgonia (Eunicella cavolini, Paramuricea clavata), a lot of sexil animal (rainbow colored spongies), octopus, many kind of fishes: barracuda (especially close to 'Secca dei Pignocchi'), diplodus sargus, dentex, ephinephelus guaza (big grouper), phycis phycis, lobsters, and many !!
Some sposts are very good for macro photo (nudibranchs, sometimes but rare, seahorses).
The water around the island can reveal ruins of the past (pieces of anphoras, sometimes ancient anchors).
Food is delicous in the restaurant of the villages on the Island: Giglio Porto, Giglio Castello (350 m high) and Giglio Campese.
Only 10 km of roads on the island.
Possibility to rent zodiac or other small boat.
Better period from may to the end of october. Crowded from 1st to 15th august , but wonderful under the sea.
