Les Saintes is a very laid back island just south of Guadeloupe. It has one policeman, one doctor, one pharmacy, and a small airfield across the only flat part of the island. Most people bike everywhere because it is so small but you soon get fit with all the hills in the middle.

At the time we went, Les Saints was home to a french activity holiday company based on a bay in the north east of the island. We were staying there and the accomodation was great value for money. This is a french territory so be prepared to speak the language and you'll get on fine. Lots of typical small caribbean island hospitality with bars that stay open till the last customer leaves and no real measures on the size of the Rum!

There was one diving operation on the south west part of the island that was well run and would go out twice a day to the local dive sites. I may be biased because it was the first time I ever went Scuba Diving but my memories tell me they were fantastic (well what do you expect!). I particularly remember lovely Gorgonian fans.

The pace of life on the island is very laid back with a veneer of french culture and technology that add a refreshing lift. Easy to get to by ferry from any of the neighbouring islands (we came over from Martinique on a scheduled 2 hour trip).
