Davao City - Mindanao Island - Southern Philippines
Water temperature between 28C and 32C dependent on time of the year. Visibility can vary from 15 meters to up to 50 meters dependent on rainy season which is probably August to November. Dives can be deep if thats what is required, but most times to see fantastic coral and fish life 20 meters is the maximum needed. Most dive sites are spread throughout the Davao Gulf around Samal and Talikud Islands. Best are boat dives but many can be dived from the beach locations on Samal, where a number of reasonable resorts are located.

These include:
Walls; Coral Gardens; Caves; Drift Diving; Abundent Sea Life. Wrecks from WWII etc. Corals around most of the dive locations are in good condition. There are often various large animals about, dolphins, turtles, sharks have been sighted from time to time, tuna, jacks, octopus, sea snakes, numerous eels. More marine life is coming back as the government and locals become aware of the potential of the area. Its all very nice.

Getting there:
Davao has direct flights from Singapore, Hong Kong, Tiawan. Or international flights to Manila from most countries, and then 90 minute domestic flight to Davao International Airport. Some airport taxes are required on using airports $5 for domestic and $25 for international flights when leaving the country. All return flights should be confirmed 72 hours prior departure.

Davao City:
There are some diving organizations in Davao City, these can be found on WWW. Courses are also available PADI and NAUI. Individual boat hire and guides are also available at not much more than an organized dive trip, guides can be retained for the period of the visit or on a daily basis. Hotels are good and affordable, and to back it up, the nightlife can be as good as anywhere. There are a good variety of restaurants serving most international dishes. Changing most hard currency is not a problem. Getting about the city is an adventure. 'It is SE Asia after all, and so if you're a nervous driver, then just close your eyes.' Shopping is also very reasonable.

Adventures:
Mount Apo the highest mountain in the Philippines is located nearby. There are hiking trips available to the top of this volcanoe. Also there are parks and gardens outside of the city proper. One especially worth visiting is the Philippine Eagle Sanctuary. At certain times of the year there are white water rafting on one of the local rivers.
