Shallow (18-20m) sand/coral shoals a few miles south west of St Kitts, north west of Nevis. On the leeward side of St Kitts, so sheltered from the Atlantic swells.

Acessed from St Kitts (several dive operators) or Nevis, the adjacent island which has one dive operator.

St Kitts is easily accessible at present (Nov 2006) from the UK as Excel fly direct to Basseterre on Saturdays from Gatwick. Nevis is a short ferry ride (40 mins) away. I have no details on travel from the US.

Square profile dives onto a mixed sand/coral bottom. The shoals are quite large but underwater topography is similar in the 3 sites we dived. Few large fish, though we found nurse sharks and some large jacks. Good mix of invertebrate life, including some large Caribbean lobsters. Visibility was about 15m, but we were there in November during a period of roughish weather.

Probably not a destination to go to specifically to dive, but pleasant diving as part of a beach/sun holiday.

We used the dive centre on Nevis at Oualie Beach. Very nice guys/lady, good equipment and a well maintained hardboat. US style diving (apologies to US readers!); 35 minute dives with a safety stop. We were surfacing with more than half full tanks and lots of time on our computers.
