Basseterre is the capital of St Kitts - a very picturesque town with a neat harbour. A large selection of boat dive sites from this harbour including old and new wrecks, sandy bottoms and plenty of corals and sponges. Diving is easy, normally 15m-20m depth, with 10m to 25m visibilty. Wrecks are marked by buoys providing they haven't been removed by locals. Most of the dives are on the protected Caribbean coast and there is a wide variety of corals, including the black coral, and lots of different sponges. Most dives had at least one turtle, usually Hawksbill. Lots of fish and a wide variety so make sure you have a good fish guide to help identify them all.

Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful, plenty of small shops to tour around and a number of sight-seeing trips are available. The day trip to Nevis was very interesting with its links to Nelson and botanical garden. Caribelle Batik, Brimstone Hill Fortress and the old sugar cane train are the main trips on St Kitts. Hiring a car gives the opportunity to explore the whole island, but the roads can be interesting - potholes are not uncommon, and roads can simply stop for no reason. Some roads are so steep that the smaller cars cannot climb them, so check where you are going first.

Restaurants, bars, food are usually very good - plenty of potent cocktails to choose from. Everywhere seems to do ribs, chicken, lobster and fish.
