We dived with both Aqua - Trek and Beqa Adventure Divers while we were in Pacific Harbour. We found Beqa Adventure Divers to be a much better dive operation, especially for more experienced divers. They have two dive boats -- one that does the shark feeding dive, while the other goes out to dive the Beqa reefs and lagoon. Aqua-Trek only runs one dive boat (at least when we were there in January - which is the low season), and does the shark feed three times a week, which will get dull fast if you intend to dive every day. Beqa Adventure Divers also seemed more sensitive to the ecology of the reef (their shark dive, for example, is much more controlled than Aqua-Trek's), had a better dive shop, and were much more careful with divers personal gear, giving everyone their own basket. Much to our dismay, Aqua-Trek threw all our personal gear in with their rental gear after we left it out to dry.
Overall, Beqa Reef is in much poorer condition than many other dive spots in Fiji, but there are a few gem dive sites, like the Fish Factory, which is located close to the Carpet Cove dive site (which was a pleasant site as well). If you are looking for a 'killer' dive spot in Fiji, a better bet would be to go to one or more of the outer islands. However, Beqa Reef and the Pacific Harbour area isn't a bad stop if you are looking to combine water and land activities or are traveling with non-divers or family. I think there is a divers' resort right on Beqa Island (off the mainland), which might get you out to some of the more remote spots on the reef.
We stayed at The Pacific Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour and liked the place a lot. Its a small resort, very stylish, good food. The Aqua-Trek dive operation is located on the resort property -- but despite this convenience, we would recommend booking with Beqa Adventure Divers which is a few minutes away.

Absolutely Awesome, Amazing,Addictive!!
I dived with Aqua-Trek Beqa based in the grounds of the Pearl South Pacific(good Hotel with great people).Aqua Trek Beqa is run by Brandon and his team,who were absolutely superb both in and out of the water.The dive guides knew exactly where to find all creatures,whether tiny or large and their commitment to ensuring you saw as much as possible was just fantastic.
I saw nudibranchs(such a huge variety),blue ribbon eels,fire gobies(very elusive normally),beautiful coral formations and fantastic schools of fish,and that was before doing the Shark Dive 6 times!! The Shark Dive is a shark feed run by Brandon and his team at Aqua-Trek in the protected Marine reserve and on 1 dive we saw 7 species of shark as follows Silvertip,Grey Reef,Sickle fin Lemon, Tawney Nurse,Whitetip reef,Blacktip Reef and Bull Sharks!! 'Big Mama' was the biggest Bull shark about 3.7m in length.The dive is well organised and the dive guides all ensure your dive is safe and exciting at the same time. Brandon's knowledge of sharks is exciting,educational and awe inspiring and both his and his team's commitment to conserve and protect both the reef system and the Sharks of Beqa is very evident.(Aqua-Trek Beqa was a finalist in the Tourism for Tomorrow awards 2007 for all their work to conserve this very special place).
I was extremely privileged to dive with Brandon and his team in what i believe to be a truly exceptional place with exceptional people,Thank You.The highlight of my diving came on my last dive in Fiji,Petero said at the dive centre in the morning it could be a good day! But when after 10 minutes into the Shark dive,all the sharks disappeared i wasn't so sure until Tukai tapped me on my shoulder to see a 4-5m Tiger Shark heading straight toward us,she stayed with us for 25 minutes and even circled below us as we ascended the line to do our safety stop.These guys really know what they are talking about.I just can't wait to go back in 2008.

also dived morgans wall situated between the naviti resort and the warwick hotel with mikes divers. for people who run a dive centre from a shack they were fanatastic. always polite, always smiling and very helpful. i can actually say it changed the way i think about my life in general. the wall was just brilliant. more fish than you could shake a stick at. watch out for the black and white ringed sea krait. missed the danger signal from my bud WALLY and came face to face with one. EEK. gong back there in feb 2005. thank you god for putting this beautiful place on this planet

This is the most incredible dive in the world. To swim with the enormous bull sharks, nurse sharks, white tips and thousands upon thousands of giant trevelli was just a fantastic experience: truly amazing!

Beqa Lagoon was an excellent dive area. Healthy reefs with many types of fish and beautiful soft corals. The staff at Kulu Bay provided first class service. Their dive instructor/guides made the trips fun and interesting. They have excellent knowledge of local dive sites and sea life!

I actually stayed at the Marlin Bay resort on the Island of Bega. 5 stars for the food, hospitality, and diving. Outstanding dive masters. A definate place I would return to.

| A 200-ton Taiwanese fishing vessel sunk at 23m on a flat, sandy bottom. Well protected from wind and chop, this site has excellent visibility so most times you can see the whole ship. Home to tropical and pelagic fish, soft and hard corals and sea fans, the wreck sits upright. It has various cabins and holds that can be penetrated. |
