May 2008 Utila seems to have a big problem with overfishing. The reef is in good shape but there are very few fish. Most locals we spoke to seem to agree. We even spoke to the mayor and did not get the impression that anything was going to change soon. It is unlikely that any of the people we met while diving would ever go back to Utila. Unless they do something soon I would speculate that they run the risk of loosing their frequent whale shark sitings. Utila was an interesting experience, but the diving was sub par. I would suggest going to a location that is making efforts to preserve their reefs.

July 2006 Worked here for 6 months and thoroughly enjoyed it, a shortage of pelagic fish when compared with neighbouring island Roatan but plenty to see and a good chance of seeing whale sharks if you time your visit right

March 2006 finished off Divemaster course, and completed over 100 dives around the island, Had amazing experience of swimming and playing with a large pod of dolphins. And saw a number of whalesharks durig the 3 months I spent there.

September 2005 Started Divemaster course, also completed Wreck Speciality, Enriched air specialty, equipment specialty. Spent 3 months on Utila and the diving was excellent as usual, only spoiled by the weather which disrupted everything as Hurricaines Wilma, and Beta passed close by.

February 2005 copleted PADI advanced open water and rescue courses. Captain Morgan's are excellent as usual, and being on the keys are much quieter and more laid back than Utila town

November 2004 I have completed over 400 dives on Utila, generally excellent visability, few currents and lots to see

August 2005 Awesome. Having visited and dove with Utila Dive Centre (5Star PADI Highest rated centre on island; great fun, facilities and very professional), I have since quit my job, sold the T-shirt and moved here. Yes it's that good. A relaxing island with real local character not just a tourist trap, though the island caters to all kinds of them. I have seen whalesharks (very often), dolphins (often), pilot whales and orcas here in the last year, beside the awesome diving. Don't miss out! See you in a better world.

at 30m this dive is for divers with a minimum advanced open water qualification. Things to look for on this wreck : Large Green Moray that is usually fund under the hull or in the hold. Large Nassau Grouper which is usually found around the wheelhouse. Cows skull in the hold, and dont miss the bicycle on the wheelhouse rail. Beware of the numerous fireworms on this wreck so be carefull where you place hands. Penetration is easy.
