November 2005 Very good dives only for advanced divers. Some times strong currents. Very good drifts dives.

June 2005 Stayed at Pemba Afloat - liveaboard option. The diving was excellent in that area - some spots are affected by strong currents, but there are many which were sheltered. Great viz and plenty to see. Also a good choice of dive sites in the area.

December 2005 The marine life off of Pemba is basically fished out. There are some reef fish and corals, but there is nothing coming out of the blue. Also, with the strong currents, you can't slow down enough to really enjoy the corals and small marine life. On one drift dive we flew by the reef so fast it was a blur! Our dive master confirmed that the depleted marine environment is now the norm off of Pemba, not a seasonal thing. The people at Bahari did not answer our emails and we had to phone them to make our booking. This indifference was shared by the dive master who just wanted to go home to Zanzibar. Much better diving off of Diani Beach Kenya, which is easier to get to and has better accomodations.

December 2004 Went on S.V. Jambo liveaboard. Went ashore twice on Pemba. Speedy drift dives! Bring DSMB. No Hammer Heads due to tsunami otherwise a terrific experience!
