The diving south of Muscat was very easy with little or no current. The organisation at the centre was rather chaotic and the boats small for the number of divers but there were no other divers in the water at any of the sites we visited during our 10 day trip.

The visibility was not comparable to the Red Sea - varying on a single dive between 3 and 20 metres. We made sure that we wore our compasses as dives are not guided unless you request it and the divemaster stays on the boat. There was also some extreme thermoclines as well which meant that 5mm suits were needed.

There are very few large pelagics in Oman, but we saw a couple of large stingrays, a torpedo ray and some large turtles. The highlight of the diving were pairs of giant mating cuttlefish!

There is not much else to do, but the environment is very relaxing with accommodation in Robinson Crusoe style huts on the beach (with a/c, shower, loo etc!). It is not the destination for those who like to go out on the razz in the evening, although you can organise trips into the desert and to the local markets and forts etc. We went in April and the temperature varied from mid-30s to low-40s. I'm not sure that July/August would be bearable when every day is in the high-40s.
