August 2006 Catalina was a fun dive. Easy ferry trip from Long Beach over and the wetsuits were ready for use at the Casino. Easy entry and nice kelp forrests.

February 2006 Eagle Reef is out in mid water with a current and no shore to navigate from, so dive operations don't frequent this place with less experienced divers. Typical depth is 35-40fsw to as deep as you want. Many reef fish, octopus, and huge lobsters. Wish I had my license and a game bag! We went with Catalina Divers and Supply aboard the Scuba Cat.

September 2005 We didn't know what to expect...WOW! The dive park was awesome! Vis was about 75ft and water temp was a nice 73! Lots and lots of fish! Amazing dive!

August 2005 This dive has got to be on the top of every California diver's wish list. Its deep 60' to 130'+. The vis was unbelievable and the pink Cal. hydrocoral is amazing. We used the Sundiver out of Long Beach. Never again! Crew was rude and unhelpful.

August 2005 I dive here all the time and for the last 36 years. This is my home. I really enjoy kelp forests and have about 1,000 dives in the Casino Pt. dive park alone (not to mention other Catalina, SoCal and more exotic dive locations). Well worth a visit. Vis generally best in the fall and winter.

September 2004 Rented wetsuit from Catalina Diver's Supply....will NEVER do that again. The wetsuit was dry when I put it on. Smelled like an outhouse when it got wet and I took it off!!!! And it wasn't mine!! Other rental items from there were OK, (tanks and weight) friendly enough people, but SCUBA LUV is now my shop of choice on the island! Great People and excellent service there!! Had a primary that had a slow yet substantial air leak in it. Took it to SCUBA Luv and they repaired it for me right there. He was unfamiliar with the model regulator I had and even called back to Arizona where I purchased it from a local dive shop, to get the spec.s for the regulator. Total cost for phone call and repairs: $0.00!! Way cool people there! :) They seem to be more concerned about your dive safety and enjoyment than gouging you for a repair bill.

Wreck Dives:

Here are the wreck dives we know of for Catalina.

The Valiant
The Valiant is one of the easiest wreck dives. Her stern is at the bottom of a sandy slope in 70 feet; her bow points due north in 100 feet of water. Since she’s on the leeward side of Catalina, the ocean is nearly always calm. If there is any current it will most likely sweep from bow to stern and be gentle. The Valiant’s bow and stern retain their distinctive shapes (the stem is round, not square) and the outline of the hull is clearly visible as you descend on her. In the collapsed midships area a mini kelp forest has sprouted.
22m / 72ft
30m / 98ft
Accidental sinking: 13-Dec-1930 Wreck penetration not possible Technical or decompression diving. More info...
