April 2013 We did 5 dives over three days with Matahari resort. We had an excellent dive guide who made sure we went out at the best times. Got to see the school of Bumphead Parrotfish that swim around the Liberty Wreck of a morning but had to be kitted up by 6am for that - totally worth it. The drop off is also an amazing dive with lots of coral and sharks although I missed seeing it myself.

October 2010 Great diving, I dived with Blue Season Bali and they were a good lot (but had obviously been ripped off a few times as they didnt want me to leave after my fist days diving without paying - even though I was leaving all my kit there) fantastic currents and really enjoyed the Liberty Ereck. never saw a Mola Mola though!!

November 2010 We try to get here every year and it never disappoints. Love the place, some of the best diving on the Planet.

September 2008 Stayed at Scuba Serya (up by the liberty wreck). Minimal currents and good vix (just how I like it). Photos here: http://www.pbase.com/suzy_walker/bali_2008 a little disappointed with the amount of macro (I think maybe all the small creatures had moved away) Only one pygme seahorse in the area (the guide said there used to be many) so I was careful not to stress him too much with my flash. Saw some nice ghost pipe fish. Enjoyed watching the schooling fish and newbie divers at the liberty wreck.

April 2010 We liked diving in Bali a lot. Mola Mola, muck diving, wreck diving, nice reefs, they seem to have it all. And all at very acceptable prices.

July 2009 Fantastic location - definitely going back sometime - watch out for the strong down currents - diving with Bali International Diving Professionals and would have no problem recommending them to anyone - amazing range of reef species

August 2009 freezing cold water and VERY strong currents made for some challenging drift diving, fighting to keep one's regulator in one's mouth... ... but the reward was an encounter with Mola Mola, sunfish, which was absolutely worth it!!

June 2009 Bali is surprisingly in fantastic shape with lots of pristine coral and some great coral gardens. Water was very warm in June, with great vis and decent currents allowing for some great drift diving...

October 2009 We dove with Prodive Bali. They seemed very unorganized, did not meet our requests (all week--and even the day of-- we had requested to do 3 dives at Nusa Penida bc it is a long boat ride, but they cancelled it only AFTER our 2nd dive there). We also felt a bit ripped off for the money we paid. Our driver also hit a moped rider....Would not recommend. We dove Tulamben, Padang Bai, Menjangen, and Nusa Penida. If I had to do it again, would only dive Nusa Penida and Tulumben. Water was very cold. We were lucky to see a mola mola at Crystal Bay and many mantas at Manta Point (Nusa Penida). The temples and monkey forest are a must see, loved the beaches and the surf too! Kuta was definitely a party town--lots of people and shopping. It was fun to rent a moped for $10 a day and the Balinese/Thai/Hotstone massages for an hour $9 are a must!

Wreck Dives:

Here are the wreck dives we know of for Bali.

USS Liberty
Ranked as Awesome by independant reviews Ranked as Awesome by independant reviews Ranked as Awesome by independant reviews
The Liberty lies on a black sand slope, almost parallel to the beach and is approximately 30 m offshore. This dive site is suitable for all levels of qualification and experience. The wreck lies in depths from 9-30 m; the shallowest part of the wreck, where it touches the sand slope, is at 5-10 m. Depth along the middle of the wreck is 16-20 m. The lower edge of the wreck, i.e. furthest down the slope, is 20-28 m (at high tide). The wreck is 120 m long, it’s pretty broken up (i.e. no penetration possible) but you can still see the guns, toilets, boilers, anchor chain, etc.

Accidental sinking: 11-Jan-1942 Wreck penetration not possible Technical or decompression diving. More info...
Diver reviews for USS Liberty:
Great Diving, we went there with BMS (Bali Marine Sports). Stays at Tulamben. About 3hr drive from Denpasar (airport). BMS took care the transportation & accommodation. Awesome night dive, wreck dive, morning dive. Best wreck dive in Bali.

Agree that the night dive is sensational. Early morning high-tide dives before the day-trippers arrive is great as well. This ship is not the USS Liberty - correctly it is the USAT Liberty-Glo.

as we stayed in Tulamben our dive guide knew when to go and we were always alone on the wreck. The night dive is awsome. Great place

Best wreck I ever dived. Took more than 1.000 pictures in a week. Every dive I discovered new species I never saw before. And when you think you know your way on the way, try a nightdive!

I dove with Made Suwena, PADI Instructor for several time in this place. We always find something new here. Good dive could be early morning or late afternoon.. bit quite from daily trippers but awesome

Lots of fish, if you are lucky some bumphead parrotfishes pass the wreck. Go early in the morning, later lots of divers from all over Bali are diving on the wreck

Aquamarine said it was wavey last week making exits and entries difficult but it was fine when we dived there. You could dive the wreck a hundred times and always see something different. We didn't want to dive there because its so heavily promoted but very, very glad we did.
