Capernwray dive site is located in the old Jackdaw quarry a couple of miles east of junction 35 on the M6.

The site has excellent facilities, although the car park area could use a better surface. Take a mat to change on to avoid getting your kit covered in white dust. The water is pretty clear and about 20 metres at its deepest. There are platforms at various depths for skills practise and a number of sunken boats, aircraft and helicopters dotted around to practise navigation skills. Entry to the water can be either gradual via a gravel slopes, or sudden via a giant step off the jetty. A rescue boat is on standby whenever diving is taking place.

The site has a well eqipped shop, a diving school, restaurant, showers and a kit repair and servicing set-up. Refils are available for air and various gas mixes.

The site can be very busy at the weekends, although the water area is large so underwater congestion is rarely a problem. Access to the site is via the pretty village of Over Kellett and along some narrow lanes, so care is required.

Capernwray has its own informative web-site at www.dive-site.co.uk and you can find opening times, water temperatures and all manner of information there.
