The weather is very agreeable all year round which allows us to dive all season long with medium temperatures of 30 C* in summer and 22 C* in spring and autumn and 15 C* in winter.

The island of Formentera is the smallest inhabited island of the Balearics. It lies to the south of Ibiza at a distance of 2 nautical miles, although the distance between the two ports is of 12 miles. The island does not have an airport, and is therefore only accessible by boat, making it slightly more complicated and expensive, but also allowing for its state of somewhat isolation, peace and excellent conservation.Access to Formentera is only possible through Ibiza which can be reached by plane or ferry from various ports on the mainland: Valencia, Denia, Barcelona... There are many boats which leave daily from Ibiza (scheduled according to time of year) which can take you to the port of La Savina, which is the only port of access to Formentera.

The island of Formentera is small, but accessible and cosy. It's roads, lined with pine and sabina trees, are easily covered on a bicycle. For slightly longer journeys we advise the use of a car of motorbike. Formentera is known for its beautiful landscape and still undeveloped dunes and beaches which remain in excellent condition.

Although we are talking about a small island, it's sharply cuts shape creates an extensive coastal region, (82 KM) in proportion to its surfaces. Along the coast we find many beaches, big and small, and many solitary coves and corners into which we can disappear, such as natural pools, the village of Sant Augustin de Es Caló, the Mitjorn area.

Formentera is known for it's nudist beaches. On Sunday afternoons there is a hippie market called Del Pilar in the area of La Mola.

NIGHTLIFE: Formentera has many areas in which we can have a drink or two in the evenings, and often becomes quite lively during the high season. The flea market of Es Pujols is a typical and pleasant corner in which to have quiet drink. Formentera nightlife much quieter than that of Ibiza but no matter where you go, the Mediterranean Sea will always be in view.

GASTRONOMY: There are many restaurants on the island, which offer international cuisine such as Mediterranean, Italian, Argentinean... During the high season, due to the massive tourist influx, we recommend making dinner reservations.

The Natural Reserve of SES SALINES

The Natural Reserve Of Ses Salines is located between the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. It borders on the south side of Ibiza and the north of Formentera, and consists of the marine stretch which separates the two. There are many small isles (Porcs, Penjats, Espalmador, Castavi) between these two larger islands which are said to be the remainders of when the islands were once connected. The wide variety of seascape in this stretch is what makes it particularly memorable. The coast of the Salines area alternates between steep cliffs with beach and dune systems, natural lakes, and humid areas. The coasts and sea beds of Ses Salines make up one of the few well conserved corners of the Mediterranean.

The Reserve was created on the 31st of July 1995, protecting a total of 11,231 hectares, 2,219 of which are land and 9,012 marine. The protection of this area was reinforced in May of 1999, with the creation of the Marine Reserve of Es Freus, which joined the Natural Reserve and enlarged the total marine area protected. Most of the Reserve area belongs to the island of Formentera. Scuba Diving is only permitted with authorisation from the Counsel of Agriculture and Fishing (Govern Balear).

The dive sites are located along the coast of the Reserve, although there is one area known as the Freu Grande ( the canal between Ibiza and Formentera used by boats) which is not suitable for diving due to maritime traffic.

*PUNTA PEDRERA
Maximum depth 25 m. Wall dive. The top half of the wall is covered by an enormous grass meadow at a depth of 12 m. The bottom half is at about 22 - 26 meters, depending on the area, with large rock boulders. During our dive along the wall and especially during the summer months when the water is warmer, great schools of grouper fish can be seen. The interesting colour of the walls cover is eye-catching, with the many briozoos, sponges. Typical sightings are of grouper, conger and moray eels, sea lobsters? A very simple dive and it is only 5 minutes away from the port of La Savina.

*PUNTA PEDRERA BARCO HUNDIDO
Maximum depth 29 meters. The ''Hermanos Florí'' wreck is the remains of an old trawler boat, which sunk in September of 1995 when it hit the end of Punta Pedrera. Advanced certification is necessary for this dive, and it is also an ideal place to carry out the wreck dive of the Advanced Open Water Course. Commonly seen species: schools of dozens of mackerel, grouper fish, Mediterranean grouper? A technical dive for which your buoyancy must be at peak performance. The boat moors at about 60 - 70 meters from the wreck just above the Punta Pedrera wall.

*PUNTA GAVINA
Maximum depth 25 meters. A comfortable easy dive typical to the Mediterranean for just this reason, in which we can see underwater caves, coral, grass meadows, cliffs, beds of sand etc. The dive begins on a shallow, rocky platform, where the boat moors at 8 - 10 meters, with large schools of octopus, grouper fish? and an amazing visibility. The platform is bordered by a cut off cliff which precipitates to 18 - 22 meters. The wall is very colourful and covered with sponges, coral weeds? for those who appreciate finer details. There is also a small cave with thousands of Mediterranean lobster and orange shrimp hiding inside. Common species: San Pedro fish (February to June), grouper fish, scorpion fish.

*LAS CUEVAS DE PUNTA GAVINA
Maximum depth 12 meters. An ideal dive for less experienced divers or those who haven't been diving for a while. A comfortable place to do Scuba Review practices. It consists of two wide caves which do not have narrow galleries and are therefore not at all dangerous. Also fit for introductory dives. A spectacular dive due to the beautiful light shows.

*EL ARCO
Maximum depth 15 - 17 meters. A dive similar to that of Punta Gavina. A special dive due to the beautiful seascape. A relaxed dive always recommended by Vellmarí for those who haven't been diving for a while. An attractive dive for those who enjoy underwater video and photography. An ideal site for introductory courses such as Discover Scuba, Discover Scuba Diving, Open Water Diver. Common Species:
