The Manacles are granite ship traps covered with coloured carpets of Jewel anenomes. If you are not impressed by this image, hang up your fins!

2 primary beaches - Porthkerris and Porthoustock located on the East Coast - grey shingle, available for boat launching (tractor), air etc. Porthkerris is a family run diving operation with a couple of Ribs and a Catermaran hardboat, the former doing a (short) shuttle service to the Manacles, the latter covering an extended range. The have a camping field, basic toilets and showers, a dive shop / restaurant and a van at beach level provided a wide variety of burgers. Benefit is that this area is in the lea of the prevailing South- Westerly winds, however if it is coming from the East with any strength - forget it. Also take note that the shingle beaches have a strong undertow and slope steeply. Getting equipment into boats needs thought as much expensive goodies like weightbelts have been lost at that stage.

Access is via Cornish lanes, so schedule accordingly. Summer can be very slow.

The area is also dived extensively from boats based in Falmouth - which benefits from a lot more accommodation options.

May, June, July can provide the treat of a basking shark sighting.

If you have non-divers get them to the west side of the Lizard - Kynance Cove is a must see

Conclusion: Top British Diving.
