The Kelp forestes surrounding Catalina Island are one of the most bio-diverse sopts on earth. Whilte there are several diver operators at Catalina as well as operators on the mainland, the City of Avalon has established a dive park exclusively for divers and snorklers. The area is quite large and accessible by a set of stairs that accomodate several divers entering and exiting at the same time. The depth ranges from 20' to 120'. There are several wrecks ranging from a schooner that sunk in the 1920's to small boats. There is also an old pier with a great amount of growth. The water temp ranges from a low in the mid-50's to mid-70's in the summer months. On weekends during the summer months, a tank fill service is in operation as well as a location for the rental of tanks, weights and other gear.

Catalina Express provides ferry service to the Island on a daily basis with a round trip ticket in the $40 range.

This is about the closest you can get to a boat dive without the actual boat!
