September 2008 The region around Safaga is one of the best parts of the Red Sea.

November 2004 Stayed at Sharm El Naga, 40km north of Safaga. Short trips with zodiacs to nearby reefs. All fine. 5 days here is enough to see it all. A lot of daytourists from Hurghada on housereef.

January 2006 Always lots to see - loads of fish. pleasant helpful dive staff (Daily dive trips) Safaga cannot claim good eating out opportunities, or much socila life but who cares the diving is great.

March 1999 Good diving. Wind gets up in the afternoon, so gets choppy. Beware of Tutenkhamun`s Revenge on land. Food hygene is not the top priority here!

November 2005 Safaga is a great place to dive. The sites are beautiful and there is much less divers than in Hurghada and Sharm.

Wreck Dives:

Here are the wreck dives we know of for Safaga.

The Aida
This is an outstanding dive by any standards - with the Diver left wondering how any ship could come to rest at such an angle. One would have expected the forces of gravity to have taken over at some point and send the vessel to a much deeper resting place. But not in this case and the Aïda lies straight "up" the reef with her bows at 25m and her stern at 60m. Apart from substantial damage to the Bows, this ship is virtually intact.
12m / 39ft
60m / 197ft
Accidental sinking: 15-Sep-1957 Wreck penetration is possible. Technical or decompression diving. More info...

This is one of the largest wrecks in the Egyptian Red Sea - roughly the same size as the Thistlegorm. She lies perfectly on her starboard side at an almost uniform depth of 32m from Bows to stern.
10m / 33ft
30m / 98ft
Accidental sinking: 16-Dec-1991 Wreck penetration not possible Technical or decompression diving. More info...
Diver reviews for The Salam Express:
This is a lovely wreck, from 30m to 16m with plenty to see, but can get crowded, perhaps most thought provoking are all the personal items and un launched lifeboats which should remind people that this is the last resting place for many egyptians but unfortunately I still saw divers entering the wreck with a total lack of sensitivity to the situation

The first time I visited this wreck it was difficult to penetrate, few of the doors or windows were open. Now it is a different story, almost all enterable holes have been opened or broken into allowing almost anyone to enter the wreck. The restaurant and bridge are easily accessible to all, further penetration can be done by those with equipped for the job and with good wreck skills. As with all diving do not dive beyond you skill level with out adequate training or support.

This is an awesome dive due To The history and number of fatalities. For photo's and video this is one of the best wrecks I have dived on as it is still intact.

This is a very eery dive because of the way it sank and the number of people lost. It is in good condition and intact. Well worth the day boat trip even if you are not a wreckie!
