April 2006 beautiful location, with small dive groups. diving is through honeycombed reefs, lots of swim throughs. Location is ver isolated so not much else to do. snorkellng also good -barracuda, sea horse seen 10 m from beach

May 2006 The MLG Dive Centre have two main boats. Deep dives to 25-30m leave at 8:30am and 11:30am each day, with a shallower dive to 5-10m at 3:30pm (registration for the dives is 30 minutes earlier). Dive boats can be crowded and unorganised - get on your boat early to get a seat and a cylinder! Also make sure that you get your weights sorted out before leaving the dock as lead seemed to be in short supply. If you can, take your own gear - some of the centres gear is a little tired - some of the dive centres regs (especially the AAS) seemed to leak a little. Tanks are 12L steel dumpies although some 15L are available. Cylinder valves are DIN convertable. Boats may not leave on time - this is Cuba - just try to chill out! All dives are guided - some groups up to 10 large! Dive times are 45 minutes or so. The corals and sponges are good with some nice gorgonia, barrel and pipe sponges. Black coral is also present on quite a few sites. The main walls are very impressive, although can be a bit gloomy, especially on the early dives. Most sites have a variety of atmospheric swimthroughs (deep ravines/short tunnels). There are some cavern dives and a shipwreck, but we didn't do these so cannot comment. Fish life is good, but no overly prolific - reef fish mainly but occassional sighting of larger stuff such as Tarpon/Barracuda/Trevally and a Turtle or two. The diving is fairly easy with no strong currents. Dive prices are 35CUC for 1 day dive - dive packages are available (240CUC for 10 dives). Night dives are offered at 40CUC but we never saw one happen! Equipment rental is 7CUC per dive. I think that it is all cash only (Credit Cards MAY be accepted - check first - but probably have an 11% surcharge!). The hotel is decent enough - book half board as there are no other restaurants within 30 miles! Try to get a beach-front room.
