      Overall summary of Spain
Spain is a large and diverse country which offers something for everyone. Steeped in history, culture and art, visitors can enjoy many different types of holiday as well as great diving, such as on the Costa Brava, from unspoilt towns like L'Escala. Catalonia, which borders France, has the most beautiful green countryside, traditional villages, world famous cuisine, wines and cavas, an important archeological site at Empuries, and was the home of great artists like Picasso and Salvador Dali.
      How to get to Spain
Quick and cheap flights from the UK and Ireland to Alicante, Valencia and Murcia for Fantastic diving on the Costa Blanca. Or you can always take a ferry to France or Northern Spain and drive.
      Top travel tips for Spain
What's the diving like in Spain
Excellent, as there is something for all levels of diver and lots of interest for underwater photographers.
      Best wreck dives in Spain
The 'Marmoler', nicknamed because of its cargo of Carrara marble slabs, which can still be seen by entering into the holds, is a 47 meter genuine wreck which sank in a storm in 1971. It is an Italian steel ship built in 1947 and used as a cargo vessel under a number of names, the last being the Avvenire.

It remains intact sitting upright on the seabed at 37 to 42 meters, just a mile off the town of L'Escala on the Costa Brava, and hosts a great array of marine life.
Chance of big fish in Spain
There are big friendly groupers, sunfish, eagle rays, tuna, and lots of shoaling fish of various sizes all along the Mediterrainean coastline from Costa Brava to Costa Blanca.
      Coral quality in Spain
In protected areas, such as the Medes Islands Marine Reserve, there are many beautiful, healthy gorgonians to be admired. All along the Costa Brava you will see walls covered in colourful soft corals.
Best time to dive in Spain
May to September is best for warm sea temperatures and lots of sunshine.
      What to take to Spain
If you are a tea drinker bring your own favourite brew, Spanish tea is just not the same. The beer and wine is great, though!
