Mali Lošinj in Croatia Very clear blue water. Octopus and some very small sea bream. All the fish very tiny indeed. Some very interesting yellow coral at 40m. Lots and lots of sea sponges.
Date posted: 06-Aug-2013 23:13
Susak in Croatia Nice dive on old Roman ship wreck. Lots of old Roman roof tiles lying in the sand/rock. Vis excellent, but little life. Reef fish very small.
Date posted: 06-Aug-2013 23:16
South Male Atoll in Maldives Great diving!
Date posted: 13-Jul-2013 13:37
Mahe in Seychelles Good dives with Underwater Seychelles in Beau Vallon. October is plankton blooming month so a little milky, but it does bring in the whale sharks (although I did not see any). Coral pretty healthy on the whole, and lots and lots of fishlife. Great diving.

Crete in Greece Dived with Blue Adventures Diving Centre in Xania. Good little dive shop with friendly and helpful staff although a little pricey (75 Euros for 2 dives). Dive site was a seriouis of underwater limestone caves, one called 'The Cathedral'. spectacular rock formations and exciting swimthroughs (although some divers were apprehensive, curiously). Not a fish to be seen - all on restaurant plates, I fear. I understand that there is some great wreck diving, but I was unable to get to see any - next time maybe. Overall the experience was OK - bath water to dive in (28 degrees) and very clear (25m vis), but disappointingly lifeless.

Loch Leven in Scotland & Northern Ireland Dive 16 in 'Top 100 British Shore Dives' (Anita Sherwood). A good dive on the edge of quarried sealoch. No sediment at all. Gin-clear water down to 40m and beyond. Loads of the usual fish and invertebrates, crabs, langoustine etc. Surprisingly enjoyable dive.
Date posted: 14-Jul-2010 17:37
Firth of Lorne in Scotland & Northern Ireland Dive 9 in 'Top 100 British Shore Dives' (Anita Sherwood). Supposedly a top drift dive under the bridge. We dived at the turn of the tide (high) and there was disappointingly little drift. Ended up swimming. Lots of kelp and, as you get about 40m beyond the bridge (out to sea) a sheer carpet of brittlestars, which is very spectacular. Nevertheless will be remembered for being the drift dive with no drift!

Gulf of Tadjoura in Djibouti Interesting dive to wreck of FAUN, deliberately sunk cargo ship some 20 years ago. Depth 9m to 28m, lying on starboard side. Fantastic amount of coral growth, loads of reef fish - a burgeoning reef with lots of life. Wreck has some swimmable holds, but beware of silt build up. Lies on sand. Great dive. Went with dive centre of Kampinski Palace Hotel - good crew.
Date posted: 04-May-2010 07:45
Firth of Clyde area in Scotland & Northern Ireland Afternoon dive on the MV AKKA by RIB. weather not bad although a little overcast. Pitch black below about 10m and vis very limited indeed (particles in the water). Wreck covered in dead mans fingers and brittle stars. Difficult to orientate around the wreck as you can only see a small part at a time. Rudder quite distinct. Some fish, but nothing big. ferries everywhere. Stilll a good dive.
Date posted: 30-May-2010 22:12
Larnaca in Cyprus A great dive on a great wreck. Nothing else quite like it in Cyprus, and probably the only dive worth doing in Cyprus! Did two dives and they were just wonderful. Must go back.
Date posted: 30-May-2010 22:22
Dibba Rock in UAE Dived the day after a storm, so vis was pretty grim Promised turtles and reef sharks on every dive, but they did not materialise. Good fish life, and if vis had been better would have been a hoofing dive.
Date posted: 08-Feb-2010 17:21
Loch Fyne in Scotland & Northern Ireland Good dove at the MOD site on the south side of the loch. Entered water on slipway and went straight in. Floor is teeming with norwegian lobster (scampi/dublin bay prawns) and was able to snaffle a few for the pot - delicious. No shortage here! Seems to be a lobster pot out there dropped off by a resident whose fish bait was seemingly being devoured by a multitude of small crabs. Lots of small fish in the water, but nothing sizeable. Water pretty clear but quite dark as it was an overcast day.
Date posted: 30-May-2010 22:19
Murcia in Spain Great dive with good visibility. Saw a sunfish and oodles of barracuda. Groupers enormous. Dived wioth Balkysub in La Manga - fantastic.
Date posted: 12-Aug-2009 20:42
Loch Long in Scotland & Northern Ireland Fair dive - great training conditions. Calm. Balmy 15*C at the end of August. Saw large edible crab, which turned into some nice sarnies next day. Few fish. Lots of anenomes, shore crabs and starfish.
Date posted: 22-Aug-2009 19:42
Loch Lomand in Scotland & Northern Ireland Handy location near Firkin Point carpark. Dark and dingy in the water. Gets deep very quickly and a thick layer of peaty water running off the hills ensures that it is dark with poor vis down to at least 10m. Lots of small fish scrabbling along the bottom, but not much else. Fresh and very cold water. Probably better going elsewhere (Loch Long or Loch Fyne).
Date posted: 28-Aug-2009 14:18
Plymouth in England & Wales Great diving in great weather. Surprisingly good vis once below the plankton blooms (which brought in the basking sharks - right into Plymouth sound just outside the breakwater). Coral growth is fantastic - especially pink sea fans and dead mans fingers. Lots of fish particularly colourful juveniles. Could almost have been the Red Sea. PERSIER a lovely wreck 27m, great swimthrough the prop shaft.

Pulau Aur in Malaysia Fish life pretty dead. Saw a few, but only tiny versions of th types which are normally so common in the Indian Ocean. The anchored fishing boats in the middle of this marine reserve probably explain why. Coral on the whole is good and blossoming, but seems to be quite dull in colour - maybe it's the lack of fish. Some crown of thorns munching their way through coral. No pelagics seen, although whale sharks reportedly turn up from time to time - they would say that wouldn't they!! Overall a disappointment, mainly due to the lack of fishlife. Why they do not protect their marine parks I do not know. Not as good as Tioman.
Date posted: 11-Jul-2009 18:48
New England Quarry in England & Wales Grim quarry in grim weather. Used by Plymouth Uni and JSSADC for confined water training. No shoreside facilities. A couple of platforms at various depths. Whirlwind helicopter and a couple of vehicles.
Date posted: 04-Jun-2009 20:05
Ascension Island in Ascension Island Lots of Galapagos sharks (over 30 in one school). Turtle heaven - huge Green Turtles and smaller Hawksbill on every dive. Good selection of reef fish. Mainly volcanic and rocky bottom, or sand. Fresh soft corals growing. Splendid place to dive, but very isolated and difficult to access. Clarence Bay Arch is another outstanding dive.
Date posted: 28-Mar-2009 16:01
Tioman in Malaysia Dived north Tioman (Salang), some good reefs. Coral best that I have seen (variety, colour and extent), but sadly mostly fished out. Those that are there are small and few and far between. Nothing big at all. Despite the 'marine reserve' status, fishermen actually operate out of the resorts, and all resorts serve a wide variety of fish in the restaurants. Malaysia - clueless. Only Cyprus has fewer fish! Go if you like coral, but if you want to see live fish, almost anywhere is better.

Straits of Tiran in Egypt Great area to dive, albeit extremely busy. Lots of great dives around Tiran. Lots of fish and coral and largely undamaged.
Date posted: 25-Aug-2008 21:32
Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt Dived mainly on White Knight - a good site, with the Sinai Dive Club based in the Hilton Shark's Bay. Excellent dive centre well run, with god and friendly staff. Second time there, and would definately go back.
Date posted: 25-Aug-2008 21:44
Vobster (Somerset) in England & Wales Vobster is an excellent training location, with good facilities and good diving. Caters for shallow to deep and provides the best bacon butties in the SW.
Date posted: 25-Aug-2008 21:39
Alexandria Harbour in Egypt Very soupy. Aircraft contains pilot's headgear still and wing still contains machine gun and ammo (port side only). Fairly certain aircraft is a Caproni 313/314, having measured length and wingspan. Has glass cockpit similar to He 111. Skin is canvas strteched over frame. Gun in left wing only. Very murky, only 5m, but interesting dive.

Port Stanley in Falkland Islands Great to dive Blue Beach 2 from Falklands War. Shallow gradient, max depth 6m. Lots of little creatures but few fish and no other life. No debris apparent near the beach. Less than 10 degrees in the water.
Date posted: 04-Jan-2008 22:37
Ponto do Ouro in Mozambique A couple of Bull (Zambezi) sharks. Moray eels. Saw a beautiful Leopard shark lying in the sand. Turtles galore and loads of dolphins. Nice diving.

Port Stanley in Falkland Islands A chilly 4 degrees in the water. Sandy bottom. Lovely kelp fronds growing on the rocks - streching from seabed (10m) to surface. Occasional dolphin. Loads of crabs.
Date posted: 30-Jun-2006 12:12
Plymouth in England & Wales Lovely dive on JEL. Mid-afternoon on sunny day made visibility outstanding. Lots of fish life, as well as anenomes, huge spider crabs and some lobster. A beautiful dive.

Lake Malawi in Malawi Baker's Oven is an interesting dive near the rocky shore. There is a swim through starting at 12m and rising to about 8m at the exit, which is fun to do. Again lots of fish (cichlids) and sea eagles fishing on the surface!

Moray Firth in Scotland Unnamed wreck not far out of lossiemouth Harbour. Sea a little cheeky (a least a four) which made recovery novel. Lots of crabs in the wreck, few fish, but there was a heavy swell. Great Boxing Day dive!
