Located in: Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico >> Netherlands Antilles >> Bonaire
In April 1984, suffering from mechanical problems and enroute for some unknown destination, this Colombian cargo ship sought refuge on the island of Bonaire. Once docked in the port, customs officials demanded permission to board the vessel and to inspect its cargo. Behind a hidden bulkhead, the inspectors found the pot of gold - a 12 ton package of marijuana and cocaine. As a service to the port authorities, members of the dive community proposed to tow the Hilma Hooker out of the Kralendijk harbor and out of the port authorities hair. On September 12, 1984, with a little help by a few finned conspirators, the cargo ship mysteriously sunk. Anchors attached, the hull sits at 100 feet on a bed of fine sand between two coral reefs.

Last 10 Diver reviews for Hilma Hooker:
It's basically an easy dive, only the depth calls for some experience. The Hooker is always surrounded by a few nice, big tarpons!

Nice wreck, easy dive but still for advanced divers because of depth.

A fair wreck but nothing exceptional. It lies on the sand at 30 metres between the twin reefs but it is easy to make the dive more interesting by exploring the reef system.

Depth makes it an advanced dive. the boat is almost upside down and you can go into the holds if you are careful of wires and don't get dissorientated!
